New to Pilates or returning after a break?

FlowMotion Pilates is designed especially for women over 40 who want to feel strong, mobile and confident in their bodies again — without punishing workouts or high-impact exercise.


If you’re completely new to Pilates (or haven’t done it in years), the best way to start is with a clear step-by-step Foundation route. This helps you learn the basics properly, build confidence, and progress safely.

This beginner route is ideal if you:


  • have never done Pilates before
     
  • are returning after a long break
     
  • feel stiff, tight, or lacking core strength
     
  • want to improve posture and reduce aches
     
  • are navigating peri-menopause/menopause and want supportive, intelligent movement
     

Why beginners should start here (not in mixed-level classes)

To give you the best experience, I don’t mix complete beginners into mixed-level live classes right away.

That’s not to exclude you — it’s to ensure:
✅ you can learn the fundamentals without feeling rushed
✅ you get the guidance you need to progress safely
✅ the class pacing works for everyone

This approach creates a better outcome for beginners and regular members.

Option 1 — Weekly Foundation Class (recommended)

Join the Foundation class once per week on Tuesdays at 10am to learn Pilates step-by-step.


You’ll learn:


  • breathing and ribcage placement
     
  • pelvic alignment and neutral spine
     
  • core activation (without gripping)
     
  • safe spinal mobility
     
  • posture awareness and stability
     
  • how to modify exercises for your body
     

After 4 weeks, most beginners feel confident enough to join the regular live class timetable.

Option 2 — Foundation Video Series (coming soon)

Prefer to start at your own pace? A short Foundation video series will be available soon so you can:


  • practise from home in your own time
     
  • repeat sessions as often as you like
     
  • build confidence before joining live classes

What you will need...

A Pilates mat

Ideally a nice 10-15mm thick mat for comfort, specially if you suffer from achy joints or stiffness. Although a thinner Yoga mat or even a blanket can usually be used, if you prefer.

You will require a stable internet connection in a quiet room and access to Zoom either as an app or through your web browser. Details will be sent to you when you book your membership.

Optional small props

Optional small props

We sometimes use small props in our classes, such as the Pilates soft ball, resistance bands, small hand or ankle weights and on Thursdays it's Magic Circle/Pilates Ring class. These props are optional as most of the time you will be able to modify or improvise without them, but they add variety and challenge to your workouts, so I do recommend them.
